I'm sick. I woke up this morning with a stuffy nose and a headache :( Being sick and being pregnant is NOT fun. I don't sleep well anyway and a stuffy nose on top of it is not fun. UGH!! My husband is making me some steel cut oatmeal and some tea. We're staying home from church so hopefully I'll feel better tomorrow. The nice thing about the coming week is that we have Friday off! I'm looking forward to a day with my little man. I think we'lll go out for sushi lunch together!
Here's the plan for this week...
Sunday: Cauliflower and Cheddar Soup and homemade french bread
Monday: Steak and Peperocini Sandwiches (from last week, we never had it) and sweet potato fries
Tuesday: Szechuan Beef
Wednesday: Navajo Tacos
Thursday: leftovers
Friday: French Bread Pizza and Caesar Salad and homemade dressing

{virtual} coffee
Good morning!
Please come in and have a cup of french press. I stopped yesterday and picked up some fresh roasted beans at our local coffee shop downtown. I'm having mine with frothy vanilla milk. How would you like yours? Yesterday, I also made some delicious homemade granola and homemade english muffins.
Before we start talking about our week, I need to apologize. Last week, I was not very gracious or social. I don't think I stopped by anyone's for a cup, and I feel guilty. It was one heck of a week last week. I was an emotional mess and exhausted after work every day. I will be better this week, I promise! I chose this cup today for me. Its time for me to snap out of it! Last week was tough, but I need to move on!
As we settle in on the couch, with the sun streaming in the window, you will probably notice the kid shows on in the background. Yes, my little guy, who I brag about never getting sick, is sick again. On Saturday morning, while I was running errands and getting ready to go meet him at his baseball game (he was at dad's house last weekend), I got a text from his stepmother that he had a 102.3 fever. My heart broke, shattered. He just can't catch a break this year. He ended up getting sick to his stomach 3 times. We've been home together yesterday and today. His appetite isn't really back, and his fever comes and goes. I just want to wave a magic wand and make it all better.
Next, I'd tell you that my friend is home from Europe! I drove up there on Saturday afternoon and spent a much-needed afternoon shopping and talking with her. Its so nice to have her home! We live about 45 minutes apart, but just knowing she's there in her house, and I can txt her or call her makes things look brighter. I love being able to share with each other over the years.
I think I'd also mention that we have Spring Break coming up in a week and a half. My son will be with his dad for the week, but my husband will be home! We're planning to spend the beginning of the week cleaning out our scary garage. I hope we get it done so we can take some day trips. I'd really like to go down to Carmel and maybe spend a day wine tasting. Maybe we'll get to San Francisco to the museum. We've been together almost 5 years and have always talked about it. I hope this year, we can make it!
What is going on in your life? Is everyone healthy? I'm so glad you stopped by for a cup of coffee. I hope to see you next week! For another cup or 2, visit Lucky 13.

{virtual} coffee
Good Morning!
If we were meeting for coffee today, I'd ask you to come over to my house. Let's sit on my comfy couch and talk for a while. I think there's 1 or 2 homemade donutsleft, would you like one? I'm still on my chai tea latte kick, and I'll even pull out my new kitchen gadget, a milk frother, so we can have foamy, frothy milk with our chai tea latte.
If we were sitting down this morning, I'd have to share that my aunt came to town for a visit over the weekend. It was so nice to see her and spend time together. We had a break in the rain and were able to enjoy some sun and fresh air. We visited the local outdoor mall and ran into one of my students and his family. It was fun to watch my little guy be able to play and run in the fresh air. He seems to be on the mend, I'm keeping my fingers crossed! Here's a picture of my dad and my aunt dancing together during our quick glimpse of sun on Saturday!
I'm starting to see the light at the end of the tunnel with my husband's work schedule for winter. He's been able to be home a little more. I snapped this picture the other night. My boys were hanging out together, doing the nightly reading.
I'd also have to share that I'm buried under report cards right now. They go home on Friday and I've made some progress, but I'm starting to feel the crunch!
The last thing I'd share is that I've been cooking and baking up a storm (partly procrastination and avoiding report cards!) I got a new cookbook last week when I was at Williams-Sonoma. I've made a couple recipes, and they were both a hit! I'm looking forward to next week and trying another one. The book is called One Pot and its worth checking out!
Before I rush back to report cards, I'd ask what you've been up to. Any news, any special visitors to your home? Thanks for stopping by!
For another cup, head to Lucky13 or Grey Umbrella. Have a great week, let's make a date for next week!

Sick Kiddo
I'm home today, catching up on laundry because my little guy is sick again. He seems to have a decent energy level, but this nasty cough is lingering. He's been home with his stepmom since Thursday last week. We're watching Cars for the 100,000th time! We'll head to the doctor's in about an hour.
I am pretty sure he doesn't feel well because he is quicker than usual to over-react and get mad or upset. I feel bad for him. He's been cooped up in the house for 5 days in a row. He still doesn't feel well, and I won't let him use the big scissors to cut out a box. Sorry, I don't want to have to get stitches on top of going to a doctor visit today.
I'm hoping to get some report card work done and maybe some baking and sewing done, but I'm not sure my little sicky will let me. I just want my happy, healthy son back! February and March have been a long months with a poor, sick kiddo who rarely gets sick.

Sick kiddo at home
I planned to get my menu plan up on Sunday night, but I got a call from my son's dad saying that my son had a nasty cough, so my husband and I ran over to my school to get my sub plans ready for the next day. I'm home again today with a sick kiddo. My poor little man- he's got a nasty cough and that sick look in his eyes. Being an almost 6 year old boy, he gets bursts of energy, then collapses. I'm trying to keep him calm with movies and games, so we'll see.
Last night, I used my new crockpot (hubby got me a programmable one since mine cracked, and I was burning dinner on karate night) I made lemon chicken I made a couple changes to the recipe though. I added rice vinegar instead of balsamic, and I used tomato paste with added water instead of ketchup. It was good, but I want to play with it again and see if I can make it better!
Tonight, I really want to bake some homemade bread, so we'll see if that happens! Hubby asked for tacos, so I am compromising and making this I haven't made that one in a long time, so it will be fun to do again.
Wednesday night, I'm going to make corn chowder and we'll have homemade bread with it.
Thursday is leftovers
Friday we'll have homemade pizza.
Next week, we will be heading out for vacation. We're staying at a resort that has a kitchen in the room. I think we will probably eat breakfast and lunch in the room, we'll see what I can stir up!
