Menu plan Monday

Happy New Year! Hard to believe that vacation is almost over. I have a ton of pictures I have to upload to showmyou the gifts I made, but somehow it just hasn't happened. I'm not sure what I've done other than read and visit with friends, but I sure could use another week or 2 off! I did go into my classroom the other day and get everything ready for the week, so I'm ready to go. Today is cleaning and grocery shopping to get ready for next week.

How were your holidays? I hope you had a wonderful time with family and friends.

Here is our family's back to work and school menu.

Saturday (1/1/11: enchiladas (my wonderful husband, who never complains about working constantly told me he was craving Mexican food. He doesn't ask for much, so when he does, I try to indulge him!)

Sunday: ravioli with marinara sauce

Monday: Swedish meatballs

Tuesday: split pea soup in the crockpot

Wednesday: leftovers

Thursday: BLAT wraps (bacon, lettuce, avocado and tomato wraps)

Friday: grabbing something out since it's movie night at school!

Saturday: Homemade pizza

Menu Plan Monday

I hope everyone had a wonderful Christmas!  We had such a great time as a family.  We were all spoiled and enjoyed playing my son's new lego game.  I think more Lego games are to come to our house again in the future!  I spent so much time finishing up Christmas crafts last week that I didn't have any time to post!  I promise, the craft ideas are coming.

I'm home for the week, and my little guy is off with his dad for a week of vacation.  I'm thinking about trying my hand at quilting.  I have a couple knitting projects I need to finish, so we'll see if I do start on a new hobby!  Tomorrow, I am taking my stepson to see Harry Potter a little Stepmom/stepson bonding.

So, on top of knitting and sewing, here's my cooking menu for the week...

Monday: Brisket
Tuesday: Meat Pies with leftover brisket
Wednesday: Chicken Parmesan sandwiches
Thursday: Fish Tacos
Friday (New Year's Eve): we will probably have a light snack of leftovers before we head to the local wine bar for NYE celebrations!

Menu Plan Monday

Today begins holiday week.  I am off work, its calmer around here and we get to play and have fun.  I have lots of sewing to do and my glue gun will be my friend!  I will have more craft posts than usual.  And, tomorrow, I get to go over to a friend's house and use her embroidery machine, I can't wait!

Here's what's on our menu for the week.

Monday: Little Man and I are out with friends and my husband is out shopping, so everyone is on their own tonight

Tuesday: Chicken Tetrazzini

Wednesday: tomato soup and turkey BLAT's- Bacon, Lettuce, Avocado, and Tomato Sandwiches (this was on the menu last week, but with everything going on at work, we didn't get to it)

Thursday: Its our annual gingerbread house decorating with my best friends and their kids.  We'll probably order pizza or grab sandwiches for us and the kids

Friday (Christmas Eve)- Crab, spinach salad and homemade bread

Christmas Wreath

I decided I needed a wreath for our front door this year.  I wanted to do something simple, but special.

 I traced the letters on scrapbook paper and cut them out, then painted the edges of the wooden letters.  J and Y are red, and the O is green.  The great thing about this is that if you get the paint on the front of the letters, its not a big deal, its covered by the paper!

 Glue the paper letters to the top of the wooded letters.

With a glue gun, I glued the letters on and on the left is an angel ornament I picked up at Michael's.  I wanted it to be simple and clean, and I am really happy with how it turned out.

Baby Shower Gift

I went to a baby shower for my niece yesterday.  I made 2 burp cloths, and I lined a basket for her.  I thought I'd post the steps I took to line the basket.  It took all of an hour, and I had lots of fun.  I think my husband is afraid that he's going to come home and find everything in lined baskets!

 I'll start with the finished project.  My neighbor helped me wrap the basket.  I made 2 burp cloths.  The link is here

I also lined this basket for here.  I took pictures along the way, so I will share what I did!

 I used a grocery bag to make the pattern.  Lay the basket down and cut the bag, leaving an inch at the top and bottom.  I cut 2 sides, then cut the fabric on the fold so I had one continuous piece of fabric with one opening.  Cut 2.

 Pin at the fold and cut out your strip.

 Trace the bottom of the basket, leaving about 1/2 inch border around the edge for seams.

 Sew pieces together, right sides together.  On bottom, leave an opening about 1 1/2 inches so you can turn in right side out.  Press seams.

 Sew side seam so you have a continuous circle of fabric.

Pin and sew turned bottom to top.

Voila!  All done, and it turned out so cute.  I think I will make a few more, now where can I put them?  Let's see...

Menu plan week of 12/13

This is our last week of school before 2 weeks off. I am looking forward to some down time and family time!

Here's our plan for the week:

Monday: bagel dogs and sweet potato fries(we got pizza on Friday, so we didn't have them last week)

Tuesday: pork shoulder tacos in the crockpot
(If you read my blog on a regular basis, you know that generally, Mondays are crockpot night.  This week I'm switching it because karate is over for a few weeks and I have physical therapy from 4:30-5:30.  This will make dinner easier for this night, and Monday we get home earlier that usual)

Wednesday: turkey BLTs and tomato soup

Thursday: leftovers

Friday: pizza and movie night,

Menu Plan Week of 12/6

We had a wonderful weekend together!  Yesterday, my cousin surprised us with front row center tickets to a performance he did here in our town (he lives in LA)  It was a last minute thing, but it was so fun to see him perform and get in the mood with holiday music.  What a treat!

Today, our church had our 2nd annual Advent Snow Day.  We live in California, but by the magic of modern technology, we truck in snow and the kids have a blast playing in the snow together.  After coming home to get out of wet clothes, we headed off to see Santa.  What a great day!

So, with colder weather, rain and the holidays upon us, here's what I'm planning for this week:

Monday: Crockpot chili

Tuesday: Italian Chicken Strips

Wednesday: leftovers

Thursday: Fettuccine with spicy alfredo and asparagus
